Rev. John Teye Memorial Institute has been ranked first place in the latest ranking of best performing private high schools who write the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Best Private schools in Ghana Compiled by Africa Schools Online, the list was computed based on each school’s performance in the WASSCE over the past five years with focus on the percentage of students who got A1 to C6 in six subjects and qualified for tertiary education from their respective schools.
Rev. John Teye Memorial tops the list with an impressive average percentage pass of 81.96% over the past five years. In 2016, thirty-six students out of forty (representing 90%) who wrote the WASSCE qualified for tertiary education. 80% of the schools’ graduates (forty out of fifty students) in 2017 qualified for tertiary education.
Other well-known schools that feature in the list include Galaxy International School, which chalked 2nd place with an average percentage of 77.46%, Akosombo International School (5th) with an average pass rate of 71.86% and Ghana Christian International High School (6th) with an average pass rate of 70.72%.
Some of these schools in addition to the WASSCE offer international programs such as Cambridge and IGCSE. Their performance in these international programs are not factored into this ranking.
Berekum Star Senior High School come in a surprising third in the ranking. Known as STABUSCO, the school was established in October 2001 in Berekum in the Brong- Ahafo Region of Ghana and has consistently posted creditable results.
